theme. Medicinal chemistry movies are one of it, based on experimental drug and
true or fictitious novels.
1. Limit less (IMDb Rating: 7.4/10)
A young author suffers from writer's block
condition. One day one of his friends offers an experimental nootropic drug,
which enables the access 100 percent of his brain abilities, then a struggling
writer becomes a supernatural stockbroker with a great memory power, but it
also puts him with lots of risks.
2. The
Invisible Man (IMDb Rating: 7.7/10)
A Scientist finds a drug to become an invisible
man while conducting a series of his own experiments. Despite of its
invisibility unfortunately it also exhibits some side effects, which makes him
aggressive and dangerous psychopathic. However in order to restore his appearance

When the carrier bag of synthetic drug she is carrying inside of her stomach
leaks, Lucy's body experiences unimaginable changes that begins to unlock her
mind's full potential and works like a supercomputer. With her new-found
powers, Lucy turns into a hardhearted warrior intent on getting back at her
captors. She receives invaluable help from Professor Norman, the leading
authority on the human mind.

A young black college student
who wishes to win annual junior analyst competition but because of his poverty
he is unable to do so, which can leads to do a job for a big brokerage company.
He becomes a guinea pig for the drug developed at the college which is promised
to heighten all senses by ten times. Then it also puts him in a risk.
6. Rise of the Planet of the Apes (IMDb Rating: 7.6/10)
A
scientist at the biotechnology company is testing anti-viral drug on
chimpanzees to find a cure for brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.
However while conducting this study because of force chimpanzee gets rampage
and killed. Scientist thought that
because of experimental drug it develops some side effects then it ultimately
leads to her death. However after few days later he came to know that the
actual reason behind her rampage to protect her child (Caesar). Once again
scientist tries same drug on Caeser (chimpanzee), who gains human-like
intelligence and emotions from an experimental drug. Raised like a child by the
drug's creator and a primatologist, Caesar ultimately finds himself taken from
the humans he loves and imprisoned in an ape sanctuary. Seeking justice for his
fellow inmates, Caesar gives the fellow apes the same drug that he inherited.
He then assembles a simian army and escapes the sanctuary - putting man and ape
on a collision course that could change the globe.
7. Max
Payne (IMDb Rating: 5.4/10)
A military secret
contract with a pharmaceutical company to create super-soldiers using the
highly addictive drug Valkyr. Only a few subjects showed positive results; the
rest saw hallucinations and eventually went insane, so the project was
terminated. But because of some greedy people whoever involved in that project
proceed further to testify on human trail without a legal permission,
consequently it leads to some mysterious deaths.
8. Awakenings (IMDb Rating: 7.8/10)
A
dedicated and caring physician finds himself with a ward full of catatonic
patients. He disturbed by them and the fact that they have been catatonic for
decades with no hope of any cure. After attending a lecture on a successful
story of L-Dopa treatment on parkinson’s disease patients. The physician
believes that the drug L-Dopa may offer a breakthrough for his own group of
patients, who are suffering with encephalitis lethargica. While treating
patients with L-Dopa, he founds that the first patient awakes; he is now an
adult having gone into a catatonic state in his early teens. The film then
delights in the new awareness of the patients and then on the reactions of
their relatives to the changes in the newly awakened. This movie also explains
drug re-purposing/re-positioning concept and drug therapeutic index.
9. The Constant Gardener (IMDb Rating: 7.5/10)
Tessa is an outspoken humanitarian and Amnesty activist to investigate a
suspicious drug trial in Kenya and expose it. This is a fraudulent testing of a
tuberculosis drug with known harmful side effects that disregards the well-being
of its poor African test subjects. Tessa was wanted to stop the drug tests and
redesign the drug. However, this would have cost millions of dollars and
significantly delay the drug during which time other competing drugs would launch.
Pharmaceutical company considered as Tessa's report too damaging, and decided
she had to be stopped. When Tessa starts getting too close to uncovering the
malpractices of an influential and powerful pharmaceutical company, she and her
colleague are brutally murdered. This movie clearly explains pharmaceutical companies’
strategy, while conducting human clinical trials.
10. The Fugitive (IMDb Rating: 7.8/10)
A prominent vascular surgeon had investigated the drug and revealed that
it caused liver damage, which would have prevented it from being approved by
the FDA. Then that leading pharmaceutical company in order to approve that drug
falsifies their medical research data and recruit one assassin to kill that
surgeon but while attempting to kill surgeon unfortunately assassin kills his
wife.
